Why We Sleep is an excellent book about sleep by Matthew Walker, Ph. D.

​

Andrew Huberman, Ph.D. has talked about sleep hygiene and supplements that are helpful for sleep and here is a video where he discusses Yoga Nidra.

Bipolar Disorder Resources

​

Psych Education has a lot of information about the Bipolar Spectrum and steps you can take to improve your symptoms. James Phelps, M.D. and Chris Aiken, M.D. have also written a good guidebook, Bipolar, Not So Much, about mood disorders that includes natural treatments as well as standard treatments.

​

DBSA is the Depression and Bipolar alliance has resources and support groups for people with unipolar or bipolar mood disorders.

​

ADHD resources

​

ADDitude is a great website for people who have and love those with ADHD. They have a lot of free material including handouts to help manage ADHD symptoms. They also have paid magazine you can subscribe to if you are more of a hands on visual learner.

​

Driven to Distraction is one of the classic ADHD books, written by Ned Hallowell, M.D. He also has many clinics including in NY and MA that treat people with ADHD.

​

Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) is an information and advocacy group for those with ADHD.

​

Finally Focused by James Greenblatt, M.D. is a Functional Medicine perspective on treating ADHD without medications.

​

Getting the Love you Want by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. and Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ph.D. - helps identify your unconscious ideas about relationships based on childhood attachment, also available as a workbook

​

 The Gottman Institute - evidence based relationship resources created by John Gottman, Ph.D. and Julie Gottman Ph.D.; authors of The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work  and 2024 TED talk

Becky Kennedy Ph.D., also known as Dr. Becky is a Clinical Psychologist and mom who wrote Good Inside and started an online education platform and community for parenting. Her Ted Talk is one of my favorites.

​

Dan Siegel, M.D. is Pediatrician, Psychiatrist and Researcher who founded the Mindsight Institute and has written two parenting books, No-Drama Discipline and The Whole-Brain Child that integrate Mindfulness into parenting.

​​

Laura Markham, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and mom who started Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids and has written a few parenting books including Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting .

​

How to Talk so Kids will Listen & Listen so Kids will Talk is a classic book that helps you learn skills to connect with your school age kids, it's also available for Little Kids and Teens.

​

A lot of people who come to see me have had difficult childhoods and do not always know the best parenting strategies. There are some other helpful books that include actual strategies to use with your kids and help you to learn how to deal with your own triggers: The 5 Principles of Parenting, How to Stop Losing Your Sh*t with Your Kids, and Yell Less, Love More.

​

MGH Center for Women's Health has information from Massachusetts General Hospital about resources for mental health in women especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

​

Mother to Baby is a website that has information about medications and safety in pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

​

Menopause Foundation of Canada has information about menopause and resources for reputable websites.​

​

Mymenoplan is a free website where you can learn about evidence based treatment for menopause created by doctors and scientists as part of a grant from the NIH.

​

The 'Pause Life was created by Dr. Mary Claire Haver an OB/Gyn to help her patients going through menopause.

​

Unhealthy Substance Use and Addiction Resources

​

This Naked Mind by Annie Grace is a great place to start to learn about alcohol and how it affects us physically and mentally.

 

The Luckiest Club - online sobriety community started by Laura McKowen who wrote We are the Luckiest and Push Off From Here

 

 Recovery 2.0 - Recovery community started by Tommy Rosen based on meditation, yoga, and healthy lifestyle

 

 Belle Robertson - author of Tired of Thinking about Drinking and no-nonsense sober coach

Mindfulness and Meditation Resources​

 

Tara Brach Ph.D. is a mindfulness practitioner, psychologist and teacher who has written books including Radical Acceptance and has a very easily accessible approach to meditation

​

Sharon Salzberg was one of the first women to bring Mindfulness teachings to the U.S. and talks about her journey to heal her own trauma, her book Real Happiness is a great place to learn how to use mindfulness and meditation to improve mood

​

Christopher Germer Ph.D. has an excellent book and workbook about using Mindfulness to improve self-compassion, which is key towards healing, especially in those who have had development trauma

​

The Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA is a great place for meditation resources and for meditation retreats

​

Mark Epstein, M.D. who wrote the classic The Trauma of Everyday Life, recently wrote The Zen of Therapy about his experience as a psychiatrist and a Buddhist, it has great examples of how concepts of Mindfulness can be used in Psychotherapy
